The Role of Innovation on 21st century education

Technological advance and the various innovations and developments of the 21st century have not only redesigned the blueprints of the world but have also revolutionized our very communication with one another; our interaction with the rest of the world and the ease with which we can access an ocean of information regardless of what the object of the research is, have become an integral part of our daily lives and have considerable influence on the way we perceive the world or even how we perceive ourselves.

This has had a massive impact on the entire system of education in today’s world. Education is defined as simply a form of learning in which knowledgeskills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training or/and research. This technological progress has not only changed the information that is transferred to students –growing more complex and technical involving more in depth study, reasoning, analysis and concept application- but also changing the means through which this information is transferred too. The use of technology such as projectors, interactive keyboards or even sound amplifiers have become commonplace. Information is presented in the form of power-point presentations, videos, graphs and statistics rather than just being read out of textbook. PCs are replacing notebooks in the influential school and some schools have also incorporated the use of personal gadgets such as iPads or smartphones rather than purchasing personal computers for students.

But the change doesn’t stop here- this shift has also changed the way students themselves use the information, gone are the days of poring over voluminous texts searching for the definition of some obscure word or process. Internet has become the integral part of all students’ life as all information can now be found by the click of a finger. Students get exposed to all kinds of new experiences and information increasing not only knowledge but also stimulates and influences their thought processes and ideas leading to the prodigies and entrepreneurs that make their mark on this world. Therefore innovation has been an integral part of transforming today’s world into one where teaching is more interactive, research effortless and homework interesting.
